On 27.03.2017, the first meeting of the Steering Committee was held in Bucharest, where representatives of the members of the Steering Committee participated.
The objectives of the project, the approved budget, the implementation period and what will be procured during the project, were presented and discussed.
The objectives of the project are:
- Improving the cooperation between the two waterways administrations in Romania and Bulgaria, to develop and implement an integrated concept used to establish the waterway management strategies, elaborate the plans of measures necessary to ensure the navigation conditions and to monitor the environmental aspects, as well as for the execution of the rehabilitation works of the channel;
- Implementation of the actions from the Master Plan elaborated within the European Danube Strategy;
- Providing the technical equipments necessary for the execution of the rehabilitation works through capital dredging, identified in the scenarios elaborated within the FAST Danube project as initiating works for the improvement of the navigation conditions in the Romanian-Bulgarian common Danube sector; respectively for the opening of a new trajectory at the critical point Bechet, the opening of the access in the port of Corabia and the opening of the secondary crossing pass to the Calafat - Vidin bridge, as originally designed.
During the meeting, the first deliverable of the project, the Communication Plan, was approved, which was approved.
