PROJECT NAME: SWIM (SMART Waterway Integrated Management)
Project objective: The SWIM project aims to achieve an Integrated Concept for the implementation of the activities of relocation of the channel through capital dredging works. Within the SWIM project a common IT platform will be developed, for the implementation of the necessary solutions for the rehabilitation of the channel, which will be implemented jointly by the waterway administrations in Romania and Bulgaria.
The SWIM project has as an area of implementation on the Danube sector, between Corabia and Calafat, with pilot dredging actions in the port area of Corabia, to improve access to the port, in the Bechet critical point area for opening a sustainable trajectory of the fairway and in the Calafat-Vidin bridge area, for opening of the second pass under the bridge. For the accomplishment of these pilot activities, from the budget of the project are provided the necessary funds for the procurement of the equipment for the execution of the capital dredging works (river dredging, pontoon, technical vessel and 2 split-barges) and the operational costs for 2 years, in order to operate the equipment and to perform these dredging works (staff costs, fuel, etc.)
The works to be carried out within the SWIM project will be analyzed and sized within the scenarios that will be elaborated in the FAST DANUBE project. All the authorizations necessary to carry out the activities, to relocate the fairway within the SWIM project, will be obtained based on the results of the studies that will be carried out within the FAST DANUBE project.
